ARCHITECTURE,NOTARCHITECTURE
The only comprehensive monograph on DS+R, featuring over 100 built and ephemeral works
Designed by DS+R as a pair of structurally conjoined volumes, Architecture, Not Architecture invites readers to bridge different modes of production and reconsider the limits of architecture. The unique binding allows each volume to be read individually or in parallel by unfolding the book at the spine. To deepen the connection between the architectural and ephemeral projects, special crossover spreads direct readers to explore shared themes—such as domesticity, pathologies, nothingness and visuality—across both volumes. Designed in collaboration with graphic design consultancy, 2x4, this dual volume book features 2,000 illustrations and spans nearly 800 pages. With photography by renowned architectural photographers including Iwan Baan, Matthew Monteith, and others, the book also features new dialogues between DS+R partners and visionaries including artist Edmund de Waal, art critic and curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, curator Paola Antonelli, actor Alan Cumming, choreographer William Forsythe, professor Sylvia Lavin, curator Ana Miljački, and Jill Medvedow.
