Technologies of deception and detection are used to weave together two crimes in two modes. One crime unfolds through a mannered, noiresque variation on the detective genre, featuring a missing body and archetypal suspects that leave traces. The other is told in a scientific tone of objectivity, involving a high–tech computer fraud and missing electronic capital—a disembodied crime that leaves no physical evidence. A video monitor each plays the five suspects under interrogation. Only their guilty hands are framed as they present their watertight alibis but each has a secret. Meanwhile, electrically charged liquid crystal panels comb together texts tracing the fluid diversion of electronic currency from old to new digital sites, police blotter, and SEC reports with intermittent views of video surveillance stills exposing each suspect in compromising situations.
