Two media installations conceived in collaboration with Romm + Pearsall represent CNN headquarters, one outside the building, and the other inside its atrium. A “satellite clock” facing Centennial Park combines three synchronized components: a 96’ wide x 30’ high curved screen of liquid crystal which slowly scrolls a projected earth satellite photo; a video elevator cab featuring live broadcasting that climbs up and down according to the half hour intervals of Headline News; and a video marquee at the entrance cycling 15 stations of Turner–Time/Warner programming. The interior installation is composed of a grid of liquid crystal panels suspended within the atrium. The huge liquid crystal screen slices the atrium in half and alternates between large–scale video projections of real–time news programming and transparent phases that retrieve the vast atrium space.
