QUADRANTHOUSE
PHOENIX,AZ
The house for a mature couple straddles views to contrasting landscapes: the flat city grid of Phoenix to one side and the rugged mass of Camelback Mountain to the other. The plan is divided into quadrants of similar size and equal programmatic value: a living space, a manicured lawn, a master bedroom and a swimming pool. Glass walls connect and divide all interior and exterior spaces without producing circulation zones. The resulting contiguous indoor–outdoor domestic space permits the occupants to always stay in visual and physical contact. From the living space, a bird’s eye view of the city is crisply bisected by a zero edge swimming pool. A sublime view up the red rock wall from the bedroom overlaps the tame, domesticated suburban lawn. The project was put on hold prior to construction. (Unrealized)
